Environmental Policies

The company has always given particular attention to environmental protection, material heritage of our area. Frantoio Nutile applies this interest both on the field with the olives cultivation, and with the recovery of oil’s liquid wastes. Starting with the field, Frantoio Nutile reduces to a minimum the chemical products, harmful for the surrounding environment, both in the treatment and prevention of the main diseases for olive trees and in the fertilization rigorously made with organic products mixed with chopped up pruning waste.

Back to the production stage, an important contribution to the reduction of polluting gases comes from the use of a methane-fueled boiler to regulate the temperature under 27°C during processing stage. An important theme for environmental protection is the recycling of the processing waste. The first processing waste coming from the facility are the leaves, which are separated from the olives once production starts and are then stored and recycled, once decomposed, as a soil improver.

The other waste produced in the oil mill is the vegetation water, which comes from the mechanical separation of the olives and the dilution waters, which is stored in airtight reinforced concrete tanks with a capacity of around 600m³. Once stored, vegetation waters are used for fertigation of the olive orchards adjacent to the oil mill and for other cultivations, as the waste waters are rich in organic compost, useful for fertilization.
